After reading the amount of ‘papers’ and fans of so called big teams whining on anout our crowds, you have to ask – why the fixation. Surely the measure of the team is how many points they gain in the league isn’t it, and as far as I can tell you don’t get extra goals or points for having more fans on the terracing.
The uneducated ravings of the Guardian and the Express this week really got my goat and it is irrational as I don’t care. I boiled it down to the fact that it is because of the lack of research and laziness in the ‘pieces’ that was annoying, not the fact that they were having a go.
Any way it was a breath of fresh air that a journo at the Daily Mail had the balls to break from the fad of slating us to actually take the time and do a bit of digging – and do you know what, he actually found that Latics attendances were actaully quite amazing, rising by 16,000 in just 15 years, 10,000 in the last ten years, I don’t know how to do links but there is a write about it on Cockney Latic .co.uk.
Looks like the undersoil heating has seen off the game, according to the official site. Mad how it has been running soundly for two weeks non-stop and then gives up the ghost the day before a game….

Off Cockney Latic: The game against Aston Villa on Saturday will definately go ahead barring ‘freak weather conditions. Wigan Athletic has issued warnings though about the surrounding area around the ground which has not been cleared by the Council.
Wigan Athletic can confirm that Saturday’s Barclays Premier League match against Aston Villa at the DW Stadium will take place as scheduled.
Once more, despite a perfect playing surface there had been concerns for the safety of fans following the recent adverse weather conditions, but after an inspection of the stadium and surrounding areas stadium officials have deemed the conditions safe for those attending.
As ever the club do advise supporters to arrive early on the day to ensure safe entry to the stadium, and having done everything in their power to make sure the game takes place would like to announce the following safety notices ahead of Saturday:
Car Park 3, located to the rear of the East Stand will be closed, however existing seasonal permit holders will be able to use Car Park 1, prior to the Soccerdome, as an alternative.
In addition to this the Frith Street entrance to and exit from the car parking facilities, near to the B&Q store, will remained closed throughout the day.
Finally, Robin Park Arena car park used by Wigan Athletic disabled supporters will not be stewarded for this game and fans are therefore advised to find an alternative location to park their cars and avoid the dangerous conditions.
Football Secretary Stuart Hayton said, the Stadium Manager and his team have worked tirelessly to get the surroundings in a fit state for Saturday and I really can’t stress enough how committed they have been to their task. Only freak weather between now and Saturday can prevent this game from going ahead and that is a tribute to how hard they have all worked.
Due to being snowed in, we have been given two tickets in the West Stand to
give away. The person who originally ha dthe tickets lives in Scotland and has
no chance of getting down for the game this weekend and has posted the tickets
top us here at the Supporters Club.
Any body wanting the tickets should drop us an email with the answer to this
simple question, “How many points do Latics have this season?”, the
winner will be drawn out at random from the correct entries recieved by 8.00
p.m. on Friday 8th January 2010 and notified so they can pick th etickets up
from the Supporters Club Lounge before the game.
All answers must be emailed to info@wastc.co.uk
(subjetct header: Villa Tickets). Good Luck
