After securing our place in the Premier League for an eight season (and relegating Blackburn in the procees), this will be a party not to be missed.

The event will be held in the South Stand Bar straight after the Wolves game and is open to Supporters Club Members only - tickets will cost £2. All ticket holders must have their membership cards (or if you have only just joined, we will have your name on the database) as well as their tickets to gain entry after the game and enjoy the festivities.

Stephen Turnbull is dedicating a lot of his time over the close season to raise awareness and money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Apart from his challenge to run from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, he has acquired a fully signed shirt to auction off.

Firstly the Challenge: On June 27th Stephen will start his unaided run from Whitehaven to Tynemouth (Coast to Coast) which he has measured at 123 miles, more if he gets lost.

• Wednesday June 27th – Whitehaven to Keswick
• Thursday June 28th – Keswick to Penrith
• Friday June 29th – Penrith to Alston (over Hartside which is some 1904ft above sea level.
• Saturday June 30th – Alston to Hexham
• Sunday July 1st – Hexham to Tynemouth….some 36 miles which is a great way to spend my birthday.

The Cause – The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation (www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk)

Sir Bobby fought cancer an incredible 5 times and set up the foundation to continue the fight. SBRF looks to trial new drugs and early detection of cancer – basically trying to provide an answer to cancer.

Stephen say’s “some 250,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer this year with more than 50% not making another 5 years. Clearly it has a devastating effect on people – not just those diagnosed – and it does not discriminate. I have lost family and friends to Cancer so it is something very close to my heart.

“I also help run an Under 11 football team (Hexham Greens), have my FA Level 1 coaching badge so football is a passion of mine as well. With Sir Bobby being such an inspirational person to me, even after his passing it is easy to see why I want to do the challenge and hopefully raise a lot of money for the cause. However, the support given goes much further than the donation.

All expenses for the challenge are being paid by me personally which will also include the postage to the winning bidder. So all of the donations will go to the foundation.

Whilst I support Newcastle who is having a season that can be described as unexpected ideally we win our remaining games and Wigan do enough to stay in the Premier League. The Premier league needs teams like Wigan”

In 1982, player manager Larry Lloyd put together a squad that achieved promotion for a team that had only been in the Football league for three seasons and they did it in style.

For the lucky ones that have got a ticket (there are a few left if you want to come see below) it will be a great night, hosted by Alice Gregr our newest Latics fan from BBC Radio Manchester. There will be a no holds barred Q&A session with the ex-players, followed by some live entertainment from the Empty Seats.

We will then be able to take a trip down memory lane with highlights from the season and mingle with the players to get answers to our own questions and maybe an autograph or two. These were from n era when they used to come into the Supporters Club and have a drink with the fans after the game, win, lose or draw.

After speaking with Eamonn O’Keefe this morning, it sounds like they are still like that and so it is probably a good job we have got a 1 o’clock bar on. We will have some great items of memorabilia to bid for and to win the raffle, it sounds like we will not have enough time to get through it all.

Wigan Athletic Supporters Club Membership 2012-2013

Wigan Athletic Supporters Club has been running for over 50 years now, providing travel to Wigan Athletic first team away games for its members. Last season we clocked up over 4500 miles, taking over 4,000 fans to away games and we are prepared for more next season. We are a non profit making organisation and that allows us to keep the costs low for travelling to away games.

Membership of the Supporters Club also allows entrance to the Wigan Athletic  Supporters Club Bar, which provides a safe place for fans to go a couple of hours to chat and meet before most home games.

The bar is located under the South Stand of the DW Stadium in theDW Fitness Suite. The bar serves food, drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic), has Sky Sports (so if there is an early match it will generally be shown); members can book for away travel, renew or apply for membership and details of any Supporters Club Events are also available there.

This season the Supporters Club has over 1200 members and every year our support is growing. Join us early for the 2011/2012 season by applying now for your membership. This web site is also a great place to come to keep up to date with the latest news, plus an area where you can add your news or viewpoint, all you need to do is register.

Every member is issued with their own membership card which will be needed for entry to the Supporters Bar and for booking and travelling on Supporters Club Coaches.

The booking of coach seats for the Blackburn game will be opened up prior to the game against Newcastle United in the Supporters Club Bar on Saturday 28th April 2012.

Ticket Information

Wigan Athletic have received a total allocation of 2,938 tickets for the Barclays Premier League away fixture with Blackburn Rovers to be played on Monday 7th May 2012 at Ewood Park (8.00pm kick off).

Match tickets will go on sale to 2011/2012 corporate season ticket holders from 9am on Thursday 19th April 2012 (strictly one ticket per valid season ticket).

These tickets will then go on sale to 2011/2012 home season ticket holders from 9am on Friday 20th April 2012 (strictly one ticket per valid season ticket).

In the event of any match tickets remaining, they will go on sale to supporters who have attended at least FIVE previous Premier League away fixtures during the 2011/2012 season from 9am on Thursday 26th April 2012. These five fixtures must have all been purchased through the DW Stadium Ticket Office. After this point, any remaining tickets will go on general sale from 9am on Friday 27th April 2012.

Subject to availability, these tickets will be on sale until 12pm on Saturday 5th May 2012.

Please note for this fixture that Blackburn Rovers will not be issuing duplicate tickets for tickets that are lost, misplaced or stolen and as such supporters are advised to collect their tickets from the DW Stadium Ticket Office.

Wigan Athletic gained election to the Football League in 1978 and defied all by actually staying there (sound familiar?). Just over 4 years later the team, managed by Larry Lloyd, not only survived but moved up a tier.

The 1982 squad that gained promotion for Wigan Athletic to Division Three, just 4 years after being elected into the Football League will joining the Supporters Club and fans of Latics for a Celebration night on Friday the 27^th April 2012. Larry and his players will of course be the special guests on this amazing night, to reminisce about the feelings back then, whether they still look for Latic’s results and what they do now with themselves.

Names you can expect to see (these have confirmed) are Larry Lloyd, Eamonn O’Keefe, Roy Tunks, Les Bradd, Colin Methven, Jimmy Weston, Alex Cribley, Graham Barrow, Kevin Langley, David Glen, John Rodgers, Kevin Sheldon, Jim Steel, Paul Lodge, and John Butler.

Tickets are just £10 and will include pie and peas, some great live entertainment from local band ‘The Empty Seats’, Questions and Answers with the ex-players, the usual charity raffle and auction and much more. The doors will open at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start and the shenanigans will wrap up at around 1.00 am.

This will be a superb opportunity for Latics fans old and new to get down to the DW Stadium and experience some great banter, and with the cost being just £10 per person, it won’t break the bank.
