Many people have e-mailed us with tributes to the late Peter
Catterall, here are a few we have selected.
Caroline Molyneux, Chairperson of the Wigan Athletic
Supporters Club sent in:
Peter has been a member of the Supporters Club committee for
over 5 years now andwas also a good friend of all its members
past and present. He has represented our disabled fans
for many years, ensuring that they could always get to and
from away games.
More recently he was appointed as our Secretary and he has
been invaluable keeping everyone up to date with the latest
happenings both at WASC and the Football Club. He always tried
to get to as many games as both - every game at home and most
away - he will be a familar face that is sorely missed.
He liased with the Past Players through his role as WAPPA
Secretary to organise the dinners, quizzes and forums held
by us - his hard work contributed massively to thesuccess
of these events. On a more personal note we will miss Peter's
happy, smiling, fun personality; at meetings, events and games.
His hospitality will never be forgotten - for example at
this annual summer BBQ's where he always made everyone feel
welcome and looked after us as his guests. Peter was
an active member of the Football Supporters Federation and
there will bemany fans from around the country who have spent
many happy hours with Peter atsocial events, regional meetings
and weekend conferences, who will mourn his passing.
At the Supporters Club we are extremely saddened to hear
of Peter's death, and wewould like his family to know that
they are in our thoughts. Peter will never be forgotten.
Bernard Ramsdale sent in:
I'm absolutely gutted about this sad news. Myself and a friend
travelled to the MEN Arena on the train with Peter to watch
the Latics Masters in action.
Sadly this was Peter's last 'Latics' outing as he collapsed
at home a few days later. The evening, like most of those
with Peter involved, was memorable. We managed (no, Peter
managed!), to get VIP passes into a bar at the Arena prior
to the tournament kicking off, and Peter, true to form, lost
us as he remained in the bar in the company of a few nice
young ladies as we found our seats.
Peter never found us again that evening, but I can confirm
that he certainly was on top form when we last saw him. He
will be sadly missed by a hell of a lot of people and I feel
privileged to have been in his company that evening. The Latics
Masters were also within ten seconds and a penalty shoot out,
of winning the trophy.
What a nice tribute that would have been for the big fella,
who wasactively involved in organising Latics' participation
in the event in the firstplace.Like I've said elsewhere, when
it came to Wigan Athletic AFC...... PETER MATTERED. RIP Big Fella.
Roger sent in:
I would just like to say how saddened I am to hear of the
death of Peter Catterall.
I had the pleasure to meet him a few times over the past
couple of years since my dad joined the ex players association.
He helped us out with various ticket arrangements whenever
needed and we all enjoyed some good banter together.
Goodbye Peter. |
